December 2011

Was planning to do a post and this popular blogger posted the same thing. What did i read in 2011,nothing great or inspiring, most are light reads and time pass few chetan bhagat’s,sujatha’s and 2 mills and boon(oh,don’t give that look, got it from her school’s jumble sale).Only one interesting read is ‘ The lost world'(Sequel of Jurassic park),it did introduced a love of paleontology.

I must say am more into reading/following kids literature/publications.We read so much this year, two trips to india means i lunge books as much as i can. The only negative thing about this place is, it lacks library, absolutely not one, after long time search i did managed to find only one in the kingdom, which is closed most of the time due to local kids causing trouble and they don’t lend. But the library was quiet state of art with a glass roof reading room and a wide range of books,i so wanted to take away most Enid Blyton’s work lying(dusting) there for myself. So the result is,i literally has to buy each and every book, but as the husband asks, how much can i pile here, tomorrow if we decide to come back for good, what will i do? still i buy at least most preferred books, typically i order the whole set in my mind, review and rework based on budget.move some into wish list and currently my wish list in flipkart contains 50+items and the one in my mind has at least 20+. I hope and wish that her school(big school coming in April) library is equipped and they lend to us.

And the list continues,am stopping here not to bore further. We did read few tamil titles from Tulika and Karadi tales, she loved ‘Brahmavin pattampuchi’ the most.I have some interesting titles to open and read including kangaroos have joeys, almost gone, barefoot hussain,Harold and the purple crayon. The reason still i have unopened books are we read and read and read over the same thing,we both(DD n me) would have read no.1 and 2 almost 50 times each. She is on no.32 right now and DD is reading to her daily for lunch the same book.

Do share what you read this year and what you aim to read in coming year.Happy reading to all out there in coming 2012.

When most kids of her age and more than her age are glued and dancing for this popular ‘Why this kolaveri’?,She is least interested in Kolaveri and is more than fond of this song and sings complete song.Actually Ammamma is someone who used to sing this one for her bed time daily and i started singing this for her.One day DD searched for this song in YouTube and we found this song was from Movie Meera, released in year 1947.

But i must say this is such a sweet and melodious song for bedtime.

One more favorite which she loves to watch is this.

What could be her first stage performance after all,am not going to dig deeper into it as DD already have sulked so much for his mistake, did i tell he is the culprit ?

Two weeks back,we had Ambuli’s school christmas celebration in British club.DD even got the passes for it.Post Bali and Singapore trip,a very hectic one at that,we all had a sickness spell and recovered only 10 days post arrival in bahrain and obviously she did not go to school. So i was under an impression that she is not participating in anything(as she has not attended school almost for a month),but i felt we must show her all those.

As norm in this house hold,we(read it as them, dad and daughter) went late to the party(in spite me waking up early and finishing everything on time) when the older kids from Prep class started dancing(Ambuli is in nursery). It was pretty lovely to see kids dancing without a cry or fuss.I did felt for ambuli having missed the fun,but she did enjoyed watching akkas and annas dancing.Myself and ambuli went rested a while he was away for a coffee break, the class teacher came straight to me and asked ‘why are late today,i have informed your husband that she is in a russian folk dance and wanted you to come early?”. It was very missing feel,i must tell you.

When i informed him,he was sure that he was not informed and we hd petty arguments as he started sulking too much, definitely  a long time to go and she still very young to get pretty many chances, though i felt a lump in my throat, for not having seen my daughter dancing a russian folk dance.

Only silver lining in amidst all these was,we won a raffle sold, second time in my life to win something in raffles or draws.

And on other note she has started talking so much and has become extremely sensitive,am in a state of confusion to handle her especially in my miffed state. One angry word and she tells you almost in a broken state and pleading voice “Amma enna thitidha amma”(pls don’t scold me amma),that leaves me in a quagmire.

We also had a birthday celebration in school, with a cake and goody bag for kids.We walked into the classroom together,a best friend of her came running but she clambered on me and refused to civil with any of her classmates and made a pool of tears when i left. What could be wrong, almost a year now and still she is not settled, every morning she tells me ‘Amma school poga vendam, nee office pogave koodathu’ (I don’t want to go to school and you should not go to office).lets read some books and play together amma.Am very confused and not sure how will i handle this.

Repeating the same old cliché,it was like the past minute i gave birth to Ambuli, but she has grown up,big enough that she wants to decide her birthday cake.

She has a terrible mom who did not approve of her deign of cake in which Mickey,Minnie and Goofy were in a ranch and Goofy lassoing(from her mickey mouse adventures book),i did got her a Mickey mouse cake and a mickey mouse goody bag attempting to make it a mickey mouse theme party.I feel very ashamed to host such a lousy party when i go aww at some party like this .

We had a miniscule party of 5+ kids and i must say we had fun.I had plans of 4 games and a finger puppet story, but since few kids did not turn up i reduced the games to 2 to fit 5+ kids.We read two books which were not in plan,we read ‘The very hungry caterpillar’ and ‘Room on the broom’,which i must say the kids enjoyed much.Kids are surprised to find the caterpillar turn into cocoon and butterfly later.Room on the broom is a big hit in our household, that i was reading it at least twice everyday and repeating it for bed time most of the days, she simply loves that book, and in the party too it was a hit,i was asked it to read it again. But the pain is to read book which your kid knows by heart, she wants to say it all by herself and was much of a nuisance to an otherwise fine reading session.

I had thought of smiley potatoes as snack and when i brought it to serve,a kid asked me ‘Aunty,is this chicken ?’,i said no,this is ‘smiley potatoes and you can eat,and other kid suddenly vouches ‘its vegetarian and you can eat it’ and points out a kid, ‘Aunty,we are all vegetarians, only he is Chicken,do you know,he is chicken and that’s why they are celebrating Christmas(they are celebrating christmas out of personal interest),and Aunty all chickens will celebrate christmas’. Parental emphasis on food habitat has influenced the kid to pass this verdict.

Then we had played some random songs kids requested and they danced,I had packed a goody back with some snacks and play-doh.It was the smallest b’day party she ever had,but it was most satisfying.I was eyeing on an easel for her and a best friend of ours brought her a 2-in-1 drawing board.magnet and black board on other side, she enjoys it so much, proof below

As seen working on it straight from bed today morning

And she claims this as penguin
