January 2010

Yesterday i was teaching her to cover mouth while coughing,i closed my mouth and slightly coughed and told her she should be closing her mouth while coughing.
After the lesson i wanted to test her, and asked what will you do while coughing? she took my hand to mouth.
Mistake is on my side,i should have taught it with her hands.
On a other note, DD used to keep ‘Viboothi’ every day night for both of us.Here when my mom kept viboothi only for her,she touched my forehead to note that i too need to go thru that.
We were all happy for her action, but she repeated the same in vadapalani temple, since i was holding her, archagar kept viboothi for her,and she immd called him and showed my forehead,he could not understand anything and we left the sannidhi with smile.

We are enjoying in chennai while DD is singing

“Manama nagaram urangum neram” in Bahrain.Climate there is getting chill, and he is not doing well.We are in my place, relaxing and Ambuli enjoying. But i miss him too, though am not sure what ambuli is feeling.

Ambuli is doing a lot of things after coming here, the top ten goes here,

1.Adamant – Showing too much resistance for anything.

2.Self feeding – She wants to feed everything by herself.

3.Vocabulary -Seems to have learnt few words.

4.Walking – Started walking a lot on her own but

not completely walking,she does crawls.

5.Time outs: She wants to go near gate all the time

to watch those stray dogs.(Wat am i going to do in bahrain?)

6.EI factor: Too much of a emotional intelligence, though its not all of a sudden, its quiet high these days.

7.Entertainment: Getting that non stop entertainment

which always she wishes.

8.Disturbed sleep: She is having a very disturbed sleeping pattern after coming here.

9.Nappy free times: She is having all day nappy

free time, due to too much of protest am facing.

10.Separational anxiety absence: She is not showing a bit of anxiety in my absence,i left her for 4 hrs with my in laws and my mom and she was happy playing around, though she instantly came to me once am in,she never made a fuss when am not around.

So this is what is happening now,we are back to bahrain in 10 days of time.

Dont be surprised for the title, will explain you later.

I wanted to see chenai sangamam and we had been to CS in Bessy beach. There was a moderate crowd and climate was good. Some rock music competition was going on, i expected to see myilaatam, oyilaatam, karagattam types and was disappointed bcoz of rock stuff.

What a bad luck, the day was full of rock music and other dances, which was notmy choice. But they did their best, lot of new instruments to their help and I would say the infrastructure was all great. After 30 mins of rock music,we wanted to answer the call of stomach.(Sevikku unavilladha pozhudhu vayitrukku iyappadum)

We moved to food stall, and the very first stall attracted me with these wording ” Tamizhargalin Sanga kaala Parambariya mikka unavana Savorit semiyavai undu magilungal” ,and there was three food stuff with semiya, they were priced individually and there was also a combo offer.I really wonder if semiya existed in sanga kaalam? Anyone with sanga kala knowledge pls update me.

And I was taken away by surprise to see too many plates with semiya upma, upma is the food for rejection in home, even servant would say she has food from other houses if offered upma, but upma was the choice of many in Sangamam. But good for wifes, they can prepare semiya upma anyday later and can serve, making them remember this sanga kaala semiya upma in sangamam.

There was virudhunagar ennai parota and lot of non-veg stuff, tirunelveli halwa, villiputhur paalgova, kovilpatti kadalai mittai, manapaarai murukku etc.,

There was too much of rush in Catering college stall, when i went there was able to appreciate, there were good variety of food and all young girl students were serving while those boys where boiling near stove.

Being veggie there was not much of choice for us,we went for a light snack, veg bondas 3 for Rs.20. It was not bad.

We had our dinner in Murugan idli shop,DD was not so happy with their food,he bought masala dosa and it was sour,i ordered pongal and it was great as usual. We both had Jhikar thanda for the first time n we did not like it.Ambuli had idli’s there, one thing which i cant understand is,she always rejects idli’s in home and loves it in hotel.Anyway i was happy that she finished her dinner without much of a fuss.

Two days back (in an evening) we have been to Besant nagar Ashtalakshmi aka Mahalakshmi temple. It’s a beautifully built but poorly maintained temple, entrance was separated for normal, 10 rs and 100 rs entries, and I believe that setup is for pongal darshan. We first went perumal sannidhi with the flower basket we bought, archagar there took one flower by himself and proceeded for archanai, DD when shown the ‘aarathi thattu’ ,offered 5 rs as dhakshanai, but archagar told him 10 RS is the least they take for archanai, DD offered 10 Rs and was in a dilemma whether to get his 5 Rs change back or not.

Most of the sannidhi’s were deserted without any archagar,we offered those flowers by ourselves, and in Sandhana lakshmi sannidhi, archagar was available, when DD gave the flower basket to him,he picked up a flower by left hand and offered to god by left hand, I felt humiliated,if not for us,should he not have respect for god? Even in home,we do all rituals perfectly and small childrens too will not use left hand for holy stuff, but he who survives because of this deity was not even cared to offer her a flower properly. What is missing in him? Not even basic courtesy, and he lacks the morality.

While going to rest of the sannidhi’s we found one sannidhi with a person, he was in the urge to leave, and I asked him till what time they will be available, he replied me back as, if they wish they will be there,if it is any important day they will be available and he said there are only 8 archagars which is less in capacity for that temple,so they really will not be available in temple all the time, don’t wonder the time was only 6:45 pm then.

After finishing all we came to Aanjaneyar sannidhi and the person just closed and was leaving, asking other one as why he is not leaving?Who is going to stay back and as he is having some other job,he rushed out. It was like a corporate staff discussion of who is going to stay back or who is going to leave.Am not sure if they following a proper schedule of ‘thaligai’ at all.

In spite of its fame, temple is in a poor state, basic pooja’s and thaligai’s are even missing.I really wonder what is there in the name of god. What is the big deal in being a big temple when normal rituals cannot even be followed, even a village temple will have better maintenance than this.

Tiruchendhur temple is no less than this, money money that’s the mantra everywhere.

In ‘valli devasena’sannidhi, they wanted money even to offer kumkum, they offer ábhisheka paal’ in tumbler (cup) to everyone, unfortunately if you get it from them, you will have to pay them at least 10 rs. So far I was feeling “palani” is worst, tiruchendur is competing it.Kerala temples are definitely way better than this. The purpose and satisfaction of visiting a temple is disappears because of this, and the big question is ‘God is really there’?.

After a week of troubling cold and throat infection, feeling better today. Ambuli is still suffering from running nose.DD got his vacation extended for one more week, since ambuli is not doing well, and my vacation extended for two more weeks. After strenuous schedule of ayusha homam, travel to tiruchendhur and mottai, we are relaxing now.

Ayusha homam was not as tough as I had imagined her exposure to ‘homa pugai’was considerably less and she was not irritated, pattu pavadai was not a problem since climate was cool. But ear boring took the credit of trouble. After too many useless advices and discussions we went with the stud which we bought and it was big, but  there was a ring type stud  which my mom got and a small stud which was used when I had ear boring ceremony. I was helpless and holding her tightly when she was on my cousin’s lap, áachari’ was there to do ear boring. It’s really painful watching her during the ceremony; I could not control my tears. But the second ear was quicker than first one, once it was all over, she stuck on to me, refused to go to anyone, even dad.I fed her and she slept for a while, between sleep she was weeping once in a while, watta painful stuff for this small sweetie pie. After meal and a good afternoon’s sleep she was alright, came to normal. With earrings she looks good, but the pain for it is bit high.

Evening we had some cake and games for neighbour kids, ambuli did enjoyed it. Here you get a lot of fancy items, we got a crown with few colourful stones for 10 Rs and a musical lotus flower b’day candle for 30 Rs, her cake was bunny with a shopping bag.

Next day afternoon, we set out for Tiruchendur for mottai. We took a Tiruchendur express from central, it was a 15 hrs journey, but that is the only straight train. Near temple there are few cottages available, we took one with two bedrooms, living room and a dining room, for one day they charged us 400 bucks, completely reasonable. Being Tuesday and Iyyappa season, there was a moderate rush.

For mottai they charge 10 rs and give árai(half) blade’,’sandhanam’ free. The way to head shaving place was not clean and a huge pile of hair spread all across the entrance of head shaving place welcomed us.DD went in with daughter while I stayed outside, he picked up fight with one person and moved to other, since he was not happy to do shaving with him. Other one he found was great, he did  very smoothly that ambuli stopped crying after few initial tears, but at some point ambuli lost interest in showing her head and shook in spite of DD holding her and  there was a deep cut with gushing blood, still there was a lil to be shaved, that person rushed up quickly and advised to stop her crying, since if she keep on crying blood loss will be more, as I had taken bath, DD tried managing her but could not, I had to hold her and there came a blow out for my rescue, she stopped crying and laughed at it, he was right, blood flow ceased as soon as she stopped crying.

Then we headed to Tiruchendur beach for bathing as the procedure is, the sea looks like a two colored pie, one half looks brown in color and rest is blue, not sure if it is dirt or anything which made the color change. We dared to take bath in sea and even ambuli had it there (that is the reason for all trouble in the past one week I presume).

We went to my MIL’s native place nearby that night and started to Chennai on Wednesday night.

Ambuli got high fever more than 101 and running nose on Wednesday. She was suffering throughout the travel; I should definitely mention the state of southern railway trains, it was pathetic, be it sleeper, or 3AC or even 2AC it was full of cockroaches which ranges in all sizes and rats running here n there. I have often travelled to Coimbatore in college days and I remember better trains, definitely not like this, even train to guruvayoor for her choroon was not bad, \and am not sure if it is only trains to south tamilnadu is bad.

We took Pothigai express on return and it was worse than Tiruchendur express.

Thursday morning we took her to hospital, I tried Sinarest with paracetamol and then crocin, fever was not coming down, then it was Ibugesic which seemed to answer her viral fever. Running nose should get better soon.

I missed the book fair this year being in Chennai. This Pongal is second one for her, though there is not much to enjoy in a city pongal, am sure it will be better than Bahrain. We have a plan of visiting Dakshina chitra,as there is  lot of Pongal events planned, good luck if we can take her there.Wishing you all  very HAPPY PONGAL(S).
